Commercial Manager  – Job Description 

The Commercial Manager is responsible for implementing commercial strategies that reflect the objectives  and priorities of the company. The role includes areas such as product development, pricing, and sales  against defined Revenue and Profitability targets (as well as customer origination and relationship  management, working closely with the Operations Manager and production team). The Commercial  Manager seeks new opportunities and is involved in negotiating ongoing contracts with key suppliers and  customers. 

Responsibility Areas  

Client engagement and management  

  • Designing and implementing new sales and customer acquisition strategies 
  • Create detailed business plans  
  • Business development and implementation  
  • Managing existing client relationships – understanding requirements and ensuring needs are met Lead negotiations and conduct legal and financial assessments prior to onboarding clients Create and maintain strong relationships 

Sales Process Development and Utilisation – from Inquiry to Remittance  

  • Development and implementation of commercial processes 
  • Training of staff on systems and commercial procedures 
  • Manage client journeys from inquiry to delivery and beyond 
  • Monitor Commercial performance in terms of relevant metrics using KPIs 
  • Manage and track expenditures, financial goals and budgets 
  • Planning and reporting sales force – To increase the provability of the company  
  • Market Intelligence 
  • Develop Product and Market Knowledge 
  • Conduct market research and analysis to enhance plans on commercial opportunities 
  • Understand and propose mitigation for potential threats 
  • Identify potential legal, financial or sales issues 
  • Prepare budget

Co-ordination of Suppliers  

  • Sourcing suppliers and building mutually beneficial relationships 
  • Participate in negotiating price, quantity and delivery schedules with suppliers 
  • Conducting market research and analysis  
  • Business development 

Required Skill Sets and Experience  

  • Degree will be advantageous  
  • Hands on experience within the manufacturing industry  
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills  
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience within the same role 
  • Financial acumen  
  • Excellent communication skills; Excellent CRM skills  
  • Must have budgeting experience  
  • Account Management experience  
  • Leadership skills; Strong administration skills  
  • Engineering and technical background is a major plus 
  • English and Afrikaans. Other major South African languages advantageous, 
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with all team members 
  • Planning and execution skills to ensure sustainable growth 
  • Champion Open Communication focused on client satisfaction and speedy resolution of issues Leverage knowledge and experience to develop the product and service offering whilst enhancing the client  experience 
  • Activate the Commercial tools to attract clients to engage with the company  
  • Ensure market fit of products and services based on trends and anticipated future market developments Be proactive and have foresight  
  • Meet Deadlines 
  • Track execution of vendor business plans
